Our Chaotic, Lovely Lives

Being in your twenties is full of different decisions you have to make. Sometimes they show up out of the blue. Friendships. Relationships. Family. Post-graduate work. And more. When it hits you at once, all of the sudden you freeze, you panic, trying to figure out what is the first thing you need to focus on. The many things you have going on in life, make you think that there is no way you can handle it at all. The ultimate question we face is how can I manage everything I need to do and also have time for myself...
Our lives can be hectic and chaotic. Often times when we have the room to do something for ourselves, we then think, "I don't have time for this, I'm too busy". Why do we say this? Is it a fear of having time alone with ourselves that we get nervous about? Is it that the moment we stop to take a deep breath, we then realize that something if off with ourselves?
We as humans have this primary psychological motivation where we don't like uncertainty. The unpleasant emotions we have. The feelings that we have not taken the time to devote to loving ourselves. We will do anything to get rid of that negative emotion. But why.. Gosh I think time and time again about why this is. And the conclusion I've come to is that we believe in society today that being busy and filling our lives with many things, makes us seem successful. We can't take a single moment to have a self study and learn about the things we love. Shouldn't we be focusing on the people and the things we love, more than filling our schedules with people-pleasing or attending things we are half interested in?
Take a moment this week to sit alone in a quiet place. It can be a small coffee shop, your living room couch, or even just a space in the sunshine. Write down all the little things you did this week. Not the activities you do every morning and night, like brush your teeth, take a shower, etc. But the things you decided to fill your available time with. Decide if these things helped just fill your schedule, or if they actually really made you feel joy.
These chaotic, lovely lives of ours are special. Focus on filling them with things you are enthusiastic about, rather than dull moments.
with all my love - SB
